My work is contemporary figurative and has been described as surreal. My images are created from my imagination which are often derived from subconscious thoughts and are usually of a solitary human being who is unable to speak. I therefore have to convey his/her thoughts using a symbolic language. This sometimes takes the form of written words and images on the body. I try to make these thoughts visible, which are of course, invisible. Idon’t usually know what my pictures are about until they are finished. The title, which is very important to me, often reveals something to me, but it can sometimes take several years before I realise what I had been trying to say.  Whilst I am trying to explain to the viewer what the picture is about, I am also trying to conceal part of this message. For whatever reason, it is important to me that something is still hidden, left unsaid. Foreign travel always inspires new ideas. Visiting countries such as Mexico, India, Spain, Indonesia, Bali, Quebec, Italy, Cyprus, Poland and most recently Greece, offers me a never ending source of rich ideas to tap into. When I am in another country I seek out objects which I am drawn to, although I am never quite sure why, but I am compelled to have it and take it home with me. Eventually it will begin to appear in my work in a symbolic way, representing something else which comes from deep inside my subconscious mind.

My travels over the years have given me a never ending source of rich ideas to tap into, for which I will always be eternally grateful.
