Woodcut with watercolour

This print is one of a series of work inspired originally by a visit I made to Kew Gardens, specifically here The Palm House.
I started by making some simple black and white woodcuts, this led me to think more closely about what the work meant to me and I felt that to adequately portray my intention I would colour them with watercolour, the better to show the sheer diversity of colour and form in the natural world.
I am a very keen gardener and I feel deeply about our natural environment. The flora kept in Botanic gardens and glasshouses has echoes of Zoos and wildlife parks, bred in captivity and also showing that in future we may only see the abundance of flora we now have in Glasshouses, a ‘Greenhouse Earth’ , possibly…
