This is a portrait of Maxine, a work collaegue, who works with me in the NHS.  She had been applying for higher promotional jobs and was continuously getting rejected. I wanted to paint her, because she is so kind and thoughtful and to boost her confidence after the heartache of many rejections. I wanted to show her in a postive light, that she was going to reach her goal, and be wonderful, because she already is.  I used bright lighting and the light glinting on her glasses. The gold has the meaning that we are all special and precious in the eyes of God, as Maxine is quite religious and believes that everything has a reason to it. Needless to say that now Maxine has got her job, which I am so pleased for her.
